Index field formatting

Hi

I'm sure this has been answered but I can't find it. I have index fields in
a Word 2000 doc and the { XE " bit is bold - I also have a space before XE -
and its annoying when I manually change the field.

I have tried to replace ^d XE bold with ^d XE no format but I get ^d isn't a
valid special char for the replace, ^19 doesn't work - I get a square -
neither does choosing a special char from the Special button - I get ^^. If I
make it ^^d XE the field is replaced with ^d XE

Is there another method that I am missing??

In the "Replace with" box, use ^& (or just leave it blank); then specify
the desired formatting.

Note that to clear character formatting not in style, you can choose to
replace with the Default Paragraph Font style: Place the cursor in the
"Replace with" box, click the More button, click Format, Style, and
choose the Default Paragraph Font. Click Replace All.

Note also that since XE fields are formatted as hidden, you must display
hidden text before Word allows you to find and replace them.
