Index unable to print

We have a 300 page document with an index that was created using a
concordance file. On the screen, everything looks fine. However, we are
unable to physically print the index portion or pdf it. When we do, we
either get out no output, or the error {INDEX \c "2" \z |1033"}

We are using Word 2003 with the latest SP3 update. I have attempted
printing with the Field Codes option enabled and disabled, as well as the
different View fields that have been suggested in previous questions. We are
running Windows XP SP2+.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | Print tab | uncheck the "Field
codes" box | OK.

Unchecked does not work. I was able to work around the problem by disabling
"Field code shading" and doing a simple copy/paste into a new document. I
then deleted the Index portion of the document and just pasted in the text
that should be there. Not a very elegant solution...

Yes I noted what you wrote in your original post, and I concluded that
you turned off field codes on the View tab but not on the Print tab,
hence my suggestion to turn off field codes on the Print tab. Field
code shading shouldn't make any difference.
