Indexing all occurrences of item in document

H

hayes

I finally figured out how to mark my document to make two indexes, sort
of, ,but when I add the \f "name" to the first occurrence of a tag, my
new index only shows me one place that it is in my document (the place
that I put in the switch), when I know it is on several pages. How do
I make it show me all the places it occurs in my text?

Or, if I can make one of my concordance files have a different switch
for the entries in the table, this would be really nice and easy, I
think. Then, I would think that I could insert my first index
concordance file without a switch, then insert the concordance file
with the switch, right? But, I need to know how to mark my concordance
file, which is a separate file that is a two-column table that includes
the entries I want marked, with the \f tag. Any ideas?

In my earlier reply, I hoped to explain that you "cannot" use switches in a
concordance file. You have to put the switches in to each tag later.

The "\f" switch applies only to the specific tag that contains it, not to
any tag containing that entry. You could search for ^d XE "My index entry"
and replace it with ^d XE "My index entry \f"b""

But I keep telling you that this will be a lot quicker if you add the tags
manually. I know this, because I tried it using a concordance file :)

For a 500-page manual, it takes three days to build a good index by tagging
manually. Using a concordance file, it will take you at least a week.
Sorry: they're slower. Give up!! Tag manually :)

Then you can add the switches as you go and it will all end up in the
correct index :)

Cheers
