Using Word 2002, I’ve created a manual in 16 chapters with each chapter a separate doc file. In the footer of each is the chapter number then the page number in the format 1-1, 1-2 etc. I’ve used a ‘SEQ chapter’ field on the first page to automate the numbering
In order to create a TOC I’ve used RD fields and the \s chapter switch to add the SEQ chapter field number before the page numbers, so that I get 1-1, 1-2 etc. This works fine for the TOC. However, when I create an index also using the \s chapter switch it only gives me the page number and not the chapter number. With 16 chapters of index entries, this is a major problem
The weird thing is that if I create a new document and attach my template to it, the index numbering shows the chapter number fine, but if I create a new document using my template it refuses to show the chapter number, showing only the page number
Anyone got any ideas what might be causing this? TI
