indication of references to FOOTNOTES in an index

emanuel_tov

it is rather easy to create an index to any text, but i would like to
distinguish between references to the text and to the footnotes (for
example, 22n, or 22 in italics). presently all references are
presented in the same way. i don't see any mention of this possibility
in the help files. can anyone help me? thanks in advance. e.t.

Hi Emanuel:

If you think creating an Index is easy, all I can say is that you have a
very high tolerance for pain :)

There are three ways you can distinguish an index entry: by its text, by
turning it bold, or by turning it italic.

Carefully read the help topic "Field codes: XE (Index Entry) field" for an
explanation of how to use the \b (bold) and \I (italic) switches.

Changing the text is simply a matter of adding the subscript or whatever to
it. Unless you are using auto-tagging. If you are using auto-tagging, you
will need to edit the XE fields later.

There's more here:
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/Createindex.htm

You'll need to refresh a few times to get that page if you're using Safari,
it's one of our old frames pages.

Cheers
