infinite document

Hi;

Please open the rtf file in
http://www.windwardreports.com/temp/infinite.zip in Word 2003. 2 page
document like it should be.

Now open it in Word 2007. The page count keeps climbing until it hits
about 23,000 pages and then Word dies.

1) Please let the Office team know of this bug.

2) If possible, can they tell us what to do differently in the rtf we
create?

thanks - dave

Hello Dave,

Thank you very much for reporting this to us. I have tested the attachment
in Word 2007, 2003, XP and wordpad, and found they behave differently:

1. Word 2007
As you said, the page count keeps climbing until it hits about 23,000 pages
and then Word hangs.

2. Word 2003
The document is opened without continuous paging. However, in the bottom of
the "YELNOC TECHNOLOGIES" table, there is one cell in pale green that spans
only one column. Its format is abnormal. When I select the cell and press
Backspace in keyboard, Word 2003 hangs and I have to stop the Word process.

3. Word XP
When the document is being opened, Word pops up a message that says: The
document 'bugged.rtf' caused a serious error the last time it was opened.
Would you like to continue opening it? When I click on Yes, The document is
opened, accompanied with a "Show Repairs" dialog. The dialog lists three
errors:
A. Table End-of-Cell Markers 1
B. Table End-of-Cell Markers 2
C. Table Properties 1
All of them point to the abnormal cell mentioned in "2. Word 2003". After
the repair, the cell turns much narrower with blank background, and
everything works fine now.

4. Windows WordPad
The document is opened without any error message. However, WordPad does
not show the pale green abnormal cell. I believe WordPad fails to parse the
part, and ignores it in UI.

Dave, based on these tests, there must be something wrong with the rtf code
for the cell. What's your expected output? An error message like Word XP,
or still showing the cell like Word 2003? Anyway, the continuous paging in
Word 2007 is far from satisfactory. I have sent an email to the product
team to report the issue. If there's anything else I can do for you, please
don't hesitate to let me know.
