Infopath -- I'm Confused on how this works

Can I please get some understanding of this?

1) Can I run this on a local computer?
2) Can I run on a network?
3) what is a Sharepoint form library? Do you have to buy it? It is simply
storage of forms? Do I need it?
4) Database connections -- I don't see ODBC just webserver and sharepoint?
What are the last two?

I'm trying to learn this program with the goal of teaching it. I just don't
know what I need to get it up and running?
