Hi all,
I'm more of a novice when it comes to Web services and InfoPath and such...
We're trying to think of better ways of collecting various information. An
example - we have a request form that is currently a classic ASP page. It is
filled out, and when it is submitted, various people receive the information
via text email, and two people have to enter this same information into two
separate enterprise systems.
A more ideal way of doing things is to just have a form that when it is
submitted, all the data is entered into both these systems' databases at the
same time automatically (FYI these two systems are in the process of becoming
integrated with each other). They both are running with a SQL Server
back-end, and we also have SharePoint Portal Server 2003 implemented (might
be possible to publish the form to an area or a site).
Since these are two separate database servers, I am thinking a Web service
would indeed need to be created to do the plumbing of the data, regardless of
the means of submitting the data, am I correct on this? I'm really just
trying to research the pros and cons of doing it using an InfoPath form
versus a web application, and vice versa...is InfoPath capable of handling
this large an operation (or larger?) Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks!
Tim
