Infopath Workflow interface with Exchange e-mail

Does anyone know of any common programming code or configuration within
Sharepoint or Exchange where an email notification can be sent to a recipient
when a form requires a specific action?

I don't think there is one, but what you could do is create a SharePoint
Designer workflow that sends an email based on promoted field values in the
form.
