Information from MS and Activation of Word

1. Can I get information from MS
without creating a Passport account?
I don't trust MS security.

2. I guess I have to "activvate" my copy
of Word. Tried email; got "communication
error". Tried phone; read off some 20
numbers successfully, I guess. When it cam
time for the voice to read me an code to
type into the box on the screen - no box
to type it into. Nothing more at bottome
of screen. No choice on wndow size -
maximize or minimize. MS voice system
doesn't recognize "help" at that point.
I'd REALLY rather stick with WordPerfect!!!

Neither do I, that's why I've created over 50 passports in the last
several years, only one with any real information. Create a new Hotmail
account with a fake name, and use it for as long as you want, then just
abandon it.

MacOffice doesn't require activation - only Windows OfficeXP/03 require
it. Hopefully, MacOffice never will.

You can register if you wish - but you needn't. No downside as far as
running the applications is concerned. Entirely up to you.

As far as looking for excuses to stick with WP - why bother? If you
prefer it, it does what you need it to do, and you don't need the Word
compatibility, stick with it! OTOH, you have Word, now, so perhaps a
trial period is in order.

Does Passport captuer only the stuff
I type in? Nothing from my computer
that I don't know about?

A little more explantion:
I usually compose in WP, but the people
I communitcate with use Word, so I translate
into Word. Occasionally something doesn't
transfer correctly, so I got in the habit
of looking at the document in Word before
sending it out. But I needed a neweer version
of Word. Cheapest way I could find was to
buy Works Suite 2004. When I opened that version
of Word the screen told me I coule use it
50 times before I had to activate it. No
comment about what would happen afer 50 times.
That's the only reason I'm fussing with
activaton.

While I can't guarantee it personally, I don't believe that there's
anything that P*ssport sends other than what you enter. Since I can use
a p*ssport from any number of machines, I don't see how machine-specific
information would be relevant.

Sounds like you're using a Wintel PC. Since Works Suite 2004 comes with
a version of Word2002, I suspect you'll have to activate it.

Passport will show you what it intends to send, I believe. No, it does not
collect anything you do not type in.

Same with Activation: it sends what you type in, plus the encrypted licence
number. It returns an encrypted activation key that is personal to
yourself.

If you do not activate, the software degrades to read-only. You cannot save
anything or edit anything.

I created a P*ssport account to register my copy of Word, but entered
only the most basic required info--name and e-mail address. Since you
seem to be on a Wintel box, I can't say what happens, but as far as the
Mac is concerned, the P*ssport account does not gather any information.
Unless you're concerned that spammers might get ahold of your e-mail
address, you don't need to worry about security unless you enter info
like your credit card numbers.
