Will I loose information stored in mac office 2004 when I upgrade to mac office 2008?

No. However, you are advised NOT to delete Office 2004 when the 2008
installer offers to remove it for you. Also, it's a very good idea to
make a fresh backup of your computer before installing big programs such
as Office, Adobe, or OS updates.

For more specific information, you'll need to say what information you
are concerned about losing.

Hi, thanks for your reply....to ask a dumb Q - how do I make a back up, can I use a portable flash or is there an option on the imac? The files are mainly excel and word with a couple of downloads like filezilla. I've burnt all my iphotos - will I loose my itunes imported library too?

Here's a good basic tutorial on backing up, though slightly old--there
may be new options now:

The Office 2008 installer should ignore your data entirely--it does not
touch any documents that you created in excel or word, should not affect
any of your downloads, should not touch anything in your iTunes library.
I've not seen any reports of it triggering disasters. People who use
Entourage might want to take back up their Entourage identity before
installing.

Do not remove Office 2004 though--it might take some customizations with it.
