Information needed on how Project spreads work for a resource

Hi,

I'm trying to understand how MSP handles the work (remaining and actual) on
tasks, as I'm confused by how my plan is spreading the effort. We use flat
loading by default and don't directly change anything in the task usage view.
But we're sometimes seeing a tendency to load towards the front of the task
therefore skewing the planned progress.

I know that this doesn't give enough for an answer, but are there any links
to the logic that MSP uses?

My experience is that this is usually due to the units field. If a resource
is assigned 8 hours of work over the course of one week and the units are set
to 20%, then the hours will be spread evenly over the week at 1.6 hours per
day.

If the units are set to 100%, then the resource will work all 8 hours the
first day.
