Information Rights Management in Microsoft Office 2003

I'm not clear on the implementation of IRM in Microsoft
Office 2003.

What exactly does a company need to implement IRM?

I read that you need:
.. Windows Server 2003
.. A database such as Microsoft SQL Server, Windows
Server Active Directory, and an RMS-enabled application or
browser.
.. Updated APIs will be required for Windows clients
and will be made available via Microsoft Windows Update.

Or

.. WRM client
.. Windows Server 2003 / W WRM services running
.. .NET passport registered with Microsoft's IRM
Services

Any how does it work - because I do not see any place
where it specifies a server?

Any information s greatly appreciated!

Alain,

I'm not sure if you have seen this document, but it does provide an
answer to the question, "Do I need a server?". Here is a relevant
section:
=================================================================
There are two ways to enable IRM functionality in Office 2003. For
home users and for organizations that do not host their own Windows
RMS on Windows Server 2003, Microsoft has provided a limited time
trail online service. Using Passport authentication with this service,
such users can leverage key IRM features to help protect their
sensitive information. The other method, which involves configuring
RMS within the organization's computing infrastructure, enables the
organization to have complete management over the IRM functionality
within Office 2003.

The link to the full document is rather long, see below:

I hope this helps answer your question.
