Initial value of text box properties

I have inputed text in the Initial Value box on the text box properties dialog.
This text shows in the text box of my form.
What I'm wondering, as I have seen this done before, is how do I get that
initial text to clear automatically when a user places the cursor in the box.
A perfect example of what I want to do appears on the Ebay.com website when
using the Search text box in top right corner of home page.

eBay is using JavaScript to do that rather than actually filling in a value.

I'm surprised Frontpage doesn't have an option for that in their dialog.
Either way that is a great website for future scripts.
