Initialising root folder

I am using Outlook 2007 on a XP machine with SP3.

Recently when you try to attache a file to an email a message will pop up
saing 'Initialising root folder' and it takes about 30 seconds before you can
navigate to the file you want to attached.

Any ideas what could be causing this problem?
