Initialize user form combo box with outline code (Take 2!)

Hi all,

I posted this back in February, but there were no takers on the
subject :) I'm hoping someone will answer this time. Here's the
question:

I've created a user form with a combo box called cmbFamily. In our
Enterprise Global Template, we've defined Enterprise Project Outline
Code 2 as "Family". When the user brings up the user form, I want the
combo box to contain the info from "Family" and then allow them to
choose the Family they want.

The idea is that the user will create a new project using the user
form, and enter in a bunch of information that will populate many
Enterprise Project custom fields. How to populate those fields has me
stumped, though.

Basically, I'm creating a more user-friendly form than the one found
in Project-->Project Information-->Enterprise Custom Fields.

Thanks for any helpful hints you can give,
Phyl

Phyl:

Tools, Customize, Forms. Edit or create a new form.
This will open the custom forms editor. From this screen
you can modify the form to include fields (item,
fields). As long as you've made the Enterprise Resource
Outline Code available to the project in which you're
building the form, you will be able to add it. Also, you
will need to define a code mask and lookup table for the
enterprise field for it to work to your defined
specifications. This must be done through the enterprise
global template.

The fields you include in the form will automatically
populate after the user enters the required information.
Keep in mind that unless you define a macro or build some
code, you will have to use the form for each
task/resource, unless the info pertains to the entire
project, then you can select all (or multiple) cells and
enter info in the form.

Hope this helps!

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the info. I tried to create a form today, but it's not
really an entry form, is it? I mean, the form I can create is really
just a dialog box with static information. What I'm doing is creating
an entry screen containing combo boxes for all the Project level
information, and I can't get the outline codes to populate the combo
box. I would like the user can use that drop-down list in the entry
screen to be able to choose the correct information, rather than have
to go to Project --> Project Information and decipher the custom field
list there.

Thanks again!

Hi Sean,

Another issue I found is that the custom forms are for Task level or
Resource level stuff. Project level custom fields only show up as
static text.

Back to the drawing board for me!

Thanks,
Phyl
