Inline Object

Word 2004

I am unable to find out how to make an object, a horizontal line, an
inline graphic.

Word 2004 Help gives a definition for an inline object but no clues as
to how to create one!

Best Wishes

I have found the 'Inline With Text' option in both AutoShapes and also
in the Wrapping tab of the formatting palette.

BUT

The Inline with Text option is always greyed out!

I have drawn a straight line in Word, selected it and then tried to
make it inline but without any success.

Any suggestions?

Hi Mark,

Apparently AutoShapes objects are not the same as Picture objects and can't
be designated as Inline With Text (unless I'm missing something). I can
give you a couple of workarounds, depending on what you want to do with the
line:

1) Just type a bunch of underscores after the text _________________

2) Open a Draw document in AppleWorks. Create a straight line there. Copy
and paste it into Word, where it will be a Picture Object and can be
formatted as Inline With Text.

Yes, Beth is correct: an "AutoShape" is not a picture. It has special
properties that can exist only in the Drawing layer of the document (not in
the text layer) so it cannot exist as Inline with text.

However, Word will convert them itself. If you Copy the AutoShape, then
Edit>Paste Special>As Picture Word will paste it back into the document as a
PICT which you can set in-line.

Cheers

Yet another way..

Control-click on any autoshap and choose Save As Picture from the pop-up
menu. This way you can control the format.
