Inline rectangle with real (adjustable) shadow

I must be forgetting something simple from having done this so seldom.
How can I get an *inline* rectangle that'll accept text inside it and
accept a drop shadow.

If I could, I'd do this with a no-wrap frame, but we need the thicker,
adjustable-colorable shadow that you can get from the Drawing toolbar,
not the thin sliver you get from the Borders & Shading dialog.

Text boxes and AutoShapes can be inline in Word 2002 and above but I believe
not in Word 2000.
