Inport/export specifications

I often find myself using the Transfer Text action in a macro to inport or
export text files. I have a number of inport/export specifications which I
use for different types of data.

From time to time, I need to produce a new specification or modify an
existing specification. At the moment, I do so by pretending to inport or
export a file - I work on the specification, save the changes and then cancel
the inport/export. Is there a better way?
