Insert a bmp file using insert object

I inserted a new page into my PPT document using the "Ojbect" template page.
When I double click the add object icon and select my bmp file I get the
following message:

"The server application, source file, or item can’t be found, or returned an
unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server application."

Is anyone able to help resolve this. My colleague is able to add files
without any problems.

I would suggest adding the bitmap as a picture (Insert--> Picture--> From
File) instead of as an object. (Unless there is a specific reason for doing
it as an object.)
