insert and edit digital pictures in word 2003

How do I insert a picute into Word 2003 from a memory card, email
attachment, scanner, MP Navigator and various other hardware and software so
that I can edit, resize and move it. At present I am just getting a blank
frame. The picture itself shows up in print preview, but with no options for
editing.
