Insert Auto Text not working

S

Shirley

Until a week or two ago, using INSERT AUTOTEXT in a header
and selecting "Filename and path" worked. Recently,
however, instead of putting the FIELD CODES in the header,
using this option inserts text that looks like FILENAME \p
with a square in front of and in back of the text (the
square that usually appears when a special character is
used). Have tried SHIFT+F9 to be sure it's not just the
codes showing, but that doesn't make any difference - and
the characters can be removed one by one. Have rebooted
several times. Using INSERT - FIELD - FILENAME with an
added field code of \p works fine. It's just the INSERT
AUTOTEXT option that doesn't work. Ideas????

Try renaming the normal.dot template to oldnormal.dot and restart Word so
that it creates a new normal.dot template and see if that overcomes the
problem.
