Insert currency symbol

How to add a ($) sign to a column of dollar amts? Can excel insert the $ amount as I key amount? When I insert symbol it does this 12.00$. Insert before keying amts only puts a few rows w/$ then stops.

Highlight the cells/column

you want to insert the $ symbol, Right click, from list
of options, click Format Cells, click Number heading,
click the Accounting category, click ok, the highlighted
cells are now formatted to line up currency symbols &
decimal points in a column.
Or hightlight the column/cells, go to the Excel toolbar &
click the Currency Symbol ($)

Two methods to automatically display dollar sign:

1.) Format Cells as "Currencey" -- Posotive values diplay as "$2.50"
and $25.50" [e.g. dollar sign flush against leftmost numeral]. Negative
values display as "-$2.50"
2.) Format Cells as "Accounting" -- diplays as "$ 2.50" and $
25.50" [e.g. dollar signs are all aligned to the far left of the cell].
Negative values display as "($ 2.50)".
