insert dash mark into existing list of numbers

How do I insert a dash mark into a column of existing phone numbers that are
strung together? For example each cell has a phone number listed as
5552384240.
I want to replace it with 555-238-4240. Is there a way to do that without
physically going into each cell?

Remember that there is (can be) a difference between how data is
stored and how it is displayed.
For example dates are stored in some complicated 8-byte compact
format, but you see it as "6/15/2008" or "Jun-15 2008" or any number
of other formats.
For your phonenumber field set the Format to 000-000-0000 and you have
the number formatted the way you want.
