Insert graphic behind Heading 1

M

Mark Urish

I am using Word 2002. I want to automatically insert a
graphic behind my Heading 1 text. Is there a way to add
the graphic to the style?

I've also tried to do it by creating an Auto-Text entry.
My problem is that I can't seem to simultaneously select
the graphic and the Heading 1 paragraph marker. Is there
a way to do this?

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Mark,

No, you can't include text or graphics as part of a style.
The AutoText entry is the way I'd go. In order to "link"
the graphic to the paragraph you need to make sure the
graphic's anchor is in that paragraph. To see the anchor,
activate the option in Tools/Options/View. Now click on the
graphic and look in the left margin, you should see the
anchor next to the first line of some paragraph. You can
DRAG it to the heading paragraph.

Now right-click the graphic and choose the formatting
options. Somewhere in the "Layout" tab (or a sub dialog
box) you should find a checkbox to "Lock anchor". Activate
this so that the anchor can't move away from the paragraph.
I've also tried to do it by creating an Auto-Text entry.
My problem is that I can't seem to simultaneously select
the graphic and the Heading 1 paragraph marker. Is there
a way to do this?

One way to incorporate a graphic in a style is to use a "picture bullet,"
but this would not be behind the text.
