insert hyperlink option disappeared!

I use small bus edition of Outlook 2003. I cannot find an option to insert
hyperlinks. The Insert drop down menu on the menu bar contains only the
following options: File, Item, Object, Signature. If I highlight the text in
the body of an email that I want to add a hyperlink to and then right click
on my mouse, there is likewise no option to insert a hyperlink.
Interestingly, if I highlight text in an email that already has a hyperlink
(say, because it was automatically done because it was in the format of
www.yyyyyyy.com), and right click, there is no option to remove the
hyperlink.

And the really odd thing is I could swear that yesterday I added a hyperlink
by highlighting a word in the body of an email, going under Insert, and
choosing the option Hyperlink--which is not there now.

Can you help?

OK, I just tried it in html format and the hyperlink option was available.
But it doesn't work in rtf, which is my preferred format. Any clues?
Thanks so much.

RTF format supports hyperlinks, but not like HTML - you can't use alternate
text as the display name, unless you paste the link from an HTML message or
web page.

BTW -since only other outlook users can read RTF formatted messages, HTML is
a better choice for internet mail in most cases.

Ah, thank you. I guess I was in HTML mode yesterday and didn't realize it.
Thanks for the "use html" tip also.

Appreciate your help!
