Good day,
I had previously configured my Outlook 2007 to include my business photo in
the Message Header of all New Messages. Somehow I changed the settings and
now it's gone.
How can I insert a JPEG into New Message Headers (not in a Signature, and
not in the Message --but in the upper portion of the Message, to the right of
the "To" field.

Does Outlook (any version) support the X-Face header (and also show it
to the sender when composing an e-mail)? If not support in OL2007,
you'll have to [re]install the add-on that provided that support.
While the X-Face header is one support by many NNTP (newsgroup) clients,
most of your *e-mail* recipients will probably never see the image.
Thank you. I'm afraid I took no such steps to install any add-on's (And
forgive me, I don't have the "techie acumen" to understand phrases in this
arena.). At the same time, your reference strikes at the heart of my intent,
and it is exactly the effect I'm trying to achieve; I just thougth it was an
Outlook 2007 setting, since I had it in place previously. In addition, I was
not aware that recipients may not see the image. Still hoping for another
option.... Thank you....
Alas, I haven't migrated past OL2002 but I have used OL2003 at work and
only briefly trialed OL2007 in a virtual machine and culled info from
these newsgroups. I have not heard that Outlook, any version, supports
the X-Face header. This is a header inserted into your e-mails or
newsgroup posts that contains a small image but encoded into a rather
long string of text (because ALL e-mail gets sent as plain text).
I have not in some 17 years of e-mailing any e-mail that contained an
X-Face header. No, I haven't looked at the headers of any e-mail that I
have received but I have reviewed the headers of LOTS of my e-mails (I
report spam and that requires reviewing the headers). I have used and
trialed Outlook, Thunderbird, Pegasus Mail, and other e-mail clients and
don't recall any that show the image for an X-Face header (either while
I am compiling an e-mail or when receiving one).
I have seen X-Face headers used in newsgroup posts and have used (and am
using) a newsreader that will display the decoded image from the X-Face
header. Newsgroup posts are not e-mail so maybe you are confusing the
two; however, Outlook never has and probably never will support NNTP
(Network News Transfer Protocol) used for newsgroups. There are
add-ons, like Newshound, that will add NNTP support to Outlook. So I'm
wondering if you are confusing seeing X-Face images in a newsreader
versus seeing them in Outlook.
In e-mails, and since I have never seen the X-Face header used in an
e-mail and because I haven't seen an e-mail client that shows an image
based on the X-Face header, it is highly unlikely that any of your
recipients would see that image. In newsgroups, you would need to use
an NNTP client that supports the X-Face header and also displays the
decoded image. My newsreader does that but, as I recall, Outlook
Express does not.
You said the face image was alongside the To: field. You sure it was in
the header pane shown when composing a new e-mail? Or was it part of
the wallpaper (background) for the e-mail and was displayed within the
body of the e-mail? If it was a background (which meant you were
composing in HTML format) then you might've been using a template.
Search Outlook's help on using templates or stationery, and then start
hunting around for .oft files that contain templates.
The only things that I can think of that would have OL2007 displaying an
image in the header pane when composing a new e-mail would be a photo in
the recipient's contact record in your address book or integration with
Windows Live Messenger (to show the photo in a matching contact record).
I'm just guessing that those might cause an image to appear. Maybe you
could save a screen capture showing the face image that you are talking
about, store the file on online storage, and provide a link to it so
others can see what you described.
