Insert menu doesn't open

Word 2002 SP2
When I click on the Insert menu, I get the error:
Failed to find control with tag or id = 30005
and the menu fails to open.
I have searched MS support without success

Control ID 30005 is the Insert Menu itself. I'm not quite sure what would
make Word unable to find it.

Select Tools > Customize from the Menu.

On the Commands tab ...

While the dialog is open, click and drag "Insert" from the Menu and
drop it anywhere where the cursor has a little X on the bottom.

Back in the Dialog, scroll down and Select "Built-In Menus" from the
Categories list on the left, then click and drag "Insert" to the Menu in
place of the one you deleted.

If that fails, on the Toolbars tab, Select "Menu Bar" from the list and
click on Reset.

If that fails too, I suspect you have a corrupt installation, so try Help >
Detect and Repair

I cured the problem by deleting Normal.dot and copying in another user's copy
of Normal.dot but thanks anyway.

You must not have any customizations you care about. In that case, deleting
Normal.dot alone would have sufficed.
