"Insert Object" list empty

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I recently upgraded from 2004 to 2008 on my work machine and have found when trying to insert an equation that there are no objects in the insert object list - and that when I tried to install MathType it fails to integrate properly (MathType also doesn't appear as an option, and the insert equation icon is greyed out). Following the suggestion from MathType tech support, I installed the program under a different account on the same machine - and it works fine under the second account. I have removed/reinstalled/fully updated Office 2008 twice now without effect. Any suggestions?

That's going to be a "Folder/Files/Groups Permissions issue.

Try a "Repair Permissions" using Disk Utility, that 'might' fix it. But it
probably won't. You can then get stuck in in Terminal and reset the
permissions using chmod if you know how, but it is a long job and I suspect
it won't work either, because I suspect that User ID has somehow corrupted
its permissions table.

In which case, you will find it FAR quicker to simply move all your stuff
over to the new user-ID (or back it all off, then delete and re-create your
user ID).

If it is what I think it is (that's a silly thing to say ‹ I don't KNOW what
it is, and I suspect nobody else does either, but we have seen a few of
them...) then moving your files to a new User will be much quicker than any
of the other supposed fixes (which in most cases don't work...)
