Insert Object replaced by file path

I am linking a file from Excel into Word using Insert Object. I have used
this process before without any problems. This is the first time that a link
to the file path shows instead of the object. but when it prints the object
is there. How do i view my object on screen? . Can anyone help?

See if using Alt+F9 when the document is open changes from field codes to field results in your display
