insert pdf file as object powerpoint 2007

I hope someone can help!
until recently, I could use the insert object to insert a complete pdf file
from a folder on my computer to a power point 2007 presentation. Recently,
when I do the same action, the file name only is inserted into my
presentation. It is not an icon, only the file name in a box/frame like the
pdf file would be in. If I right click on the box that was inserted, it has
no reference of a acrobat document object, it only says package object
available, with activate being an option, I can then see the pdf file in
explorer, but not in my presentation. I have no idea what happened to my
powerpoint to cause it to stop working like before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
