Microsoft people, you have broken an essential feature in 12.1.2 update. It's now not possible to save as ppt 97-04 a presentation with an embedded pdf image.

steps to recreate:
1. create new presentation
2. insert-picture-from file- choose a pdf image
3. save as-format 'ppt 97-4'

ppt then crashes! this means not possible to paste into ppt from excel!

Hi,

Anyone who is experiencing this problem should use Help > Send Feedback.
Be sure to include system information (OS version, basic hardware and RAM).

Something like this is sure to get a quick fix if enough people report
it right away.

I have confirmed this & found it to be the case with *all* Office apps as a
result of the 12.1.2 update. I've filed a bug with MacBU, but as Jim
suggested each user should: (1) Be sure to use the Send Report option when
the crash occurs & (2) Directly use Help> Send Feedback to hammer the issue
home. I certainly can't say for sure but I would expect something of this
nature to be addressed rather quickly.

Thanks for the heads-up :)

Me too. the only work around I've found is to save the pdf as a JPEG and then insert that as a picture file. I've already sent feedback too.

quick fix? it's been 2 weeks and no response from msft... anyone has any news as to when a fix is likely? this is a big issue. can't believe they don't incorporate something like that in their testing and QA procedures, if they have any!

Same problem here, reproducible every time. Didn't they tout PDF insertion when they rolled out Office 2008?

The same for me in Word 2008. Saving as .docx works fine. Saving as .doc,
Word 2008 crashes.

Does it now work since updating to 12.1.3? i have updated but still can't paste. it's even more broken now since it's not even possible to paste as picture. When i copy in excel and paste special as either picture or pdf all i get is a blue set of handles on the ppt slide.

have however found a very unsatisfactory work around which i wanted to share. it's a small free application called skitch (www.skitch.com) which allows you to take a picture of a part of your screen, like an excel graph and paste it as pdf into other application. how a small startup can fix something that msft can't baffles me, or maybe not....
