Insert > Picture > From File freezes PPT: Office 2003

When I try to insert a picture from a file it freezes PPT. This also happens
when I click the insert picture icon on the drawing toolbar. I have tried
repairing my Office installation, then uninstalling and reinstalling Office
and it still happens. I have Office on another computer and that works fine.

How can I fix this? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hey BoH Photo,

First, how full is your My Pictures folder?
Try moving the contents to another folder (temporarily) and see if that
resolves the problem.

Second, what location are you trying to add them from?
I have not been able to insert any images from my desktop for about 4
months. I can insert them from other locations without a problem, but not
from the desktop. I don't have the slightest clue why, but I know it
crashes PowerPoint to try. Just one of the exciting features, I guess.

Let us know what happens when you move the contents of the My Pictures
folder...

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the suggestions. There are no photos in My Pictures, I don't use
that folder. I am a photogrpaher and have my photos on a separate hard drive
in my computer. I'm not sure where the command Insert>Picture>From File is
currently pointing to as it crashes before the dialog box opens.

I have used this command many times in the past and it has just started
acting up. I have seen other posts that suggest that if the folder it's
pointing to has too many large files it can be a problem. At this point
though, I can't change the default folder where it goes to look for photos. I
checked all the preferences and options and didn't find a place to do that.

Steve, I put some photos into My Pictures folder on my C drive and then tried
inserting again. This time PPT did not freeze, but I noticed it pointed to My
Pictures folder on my D drive. I use C: only for applications and keep all my
photos and other work on D:. I'm not even sure how a My Pictures folder ended
up on D: but I'm very happy that PPT now works again for importing photos.

Thanks for the tip and responding to the question.
