Insert Picture jpeg file into Powerpoint for Office X

I can't seem to insert a picture into a powerpoint presentation without
getting a message that says it can't be done due to a corrupt file or
something along those lines. If I convert the jpeg using Photoshop to its
version of jpeg, it will insert. I wonder why this is the case. With Windows, I
don't have to go through converting a jpeg to insert it into a powerpoint.
Keynote also works fine.

It sounds to me like the original version of the file isn't really a
JPEG. Just because it ends in .jpg or .jpeg doesn't mean it really is a
JPEG. I'm guessing that it is some other format of picture that
PowerPoint can't read. Photoshop doesn't have it's own version of JPEG.
It follows the same standard for JPEG as everyone else. Try opening the
picture in GraphicConverter (that came bundled with my Mac, but if it
didn't with yours, you can download it for free from
http://www.lemkesoft.com/) and go to the Picture menu and choose Show
Information. That wll tell you what kind of picture it really is.
