Insert rows without using the mouse

In the windows version of Excel, all I had to do is press alt i+r and I had rows inserted.

In the Mac 2008 version, I have the shortcut Control+i and it brings up a radio button menu which is set to "shift cells down". What I need is "Entire Row" right below it. But pressing the down arrow on the keyboard won't work. I have to move the mouse and click on the radio button and the press enter or click okay. Way too many things to do for something I repeat all the time on worksheets.

Am I missing something here?

You can navigate the Insert dialog using the Tab key... Or better yet go to
Tools> Customize Keyboard & assign a stroke of your own (such as
Shift+Control+I) to the Insert> Row command... One luxury you're not
accustomed to in the PC version :)

With all due respect, however, if you're inserting rows that frequently I'd
suggest that there might be a far more efficient means of handling the
workflow... Such as adding records at the bottom of a list, then sorting.

Have you considered other approaches?

Using the tab key did not allow me to navigate the insert dialog. The only thing that works is using the mouse.

That said, I was able to customize a keyboard shortcut as you described and that solved the problem. Thank you.

I have a huge cashflow program which I've been using since 1990 and I've long since carried over to Excel. So I don't use my Excel files in a manner which would be conducive to adding records to the end of a list and then sorting as you suggested. Apples and Oranges. But thanks for the keyboard shortcut tip.

Glad the kybd idea worked out & I understand about the circumstance of your
sheet - I just threw that in because I constantly come across users who work
substantially harder than they should have to... and wreck their sheets in
the process :)

As to the Insert dialog, are you sure about the tabbing? When it first
appears the focus is on the OK button with the first press of Tab. The next
press shifts the focus to Cancel, then each successive press goes through
the option buttons as indicated by a little halo around the one with the
focus. When you get to the option you want press the Spacebar to select it
then press return.
