Insert symbol: clicking on symbol does not work

N

Nigel Goldenfeld

Hi -- when I try to insert a symbol in Word 2002 (Office
XP Pro), the symbol dialogue box comes up, but clicking on
the symbols with the mouse does not highlight them and I
cannot insert them into my text.

I can navigate through the dialogue box with the arrow
keys however, highlight the desired symbol and then click
on the Insert button.

Obviously this is not satisfactory. I have tried
reinstalling, installing all service packs. This
behaviour was reproduced on my other computer too. Both
run Windows XP Pro. I also have Adobe Acrobat 6.0
installed.

How come no one else seems to have posted about this bad
behaviour?

Suggestions please?

Thanks

This is a problem I have noticed also. I am running Word
97 on Windows XP Home Edition and have Acrobat 5.2. I
can't offer any help round this other than addint a bit
more information to try to narrow down what might be the
problem.

That's interesting. Must be a XP problem. I noticed that
the symbol opened up on the Euro symbol. I wonder if all
the Windows Updates concerning the Euro symbol somehow
screwed everything up. Word 97 worked fine on my computer
running Windows 98.

The problem seems to be TweakUI and x-mouse. I have x-
mouse activated. If you turn off X-mouse, Word works
fine. Damn nuisance -- I like X-mouse.
