Insert symbol menu not working; repair/reinstall hangs

Office Professional XP 2002. Insert symbol from menu and shortcut keys just
quit working. Attempts to repair (from both CD & from Control Panel -- so it
is not a faulty CD) just hang. I am reluctant to uninstall and reinstall,
since I have no confidence that it will complete. Any ideas as to what is
happening and what I can do about it?

To repair Word, you just need to use Word, Help, Detect and Repair. However,
your problem is more likely to be a printer driver problem. Check to see
that you have the latest version of the printer driver for your printer and
then delete and reinstall the printer.

Thanks for the tip on Detect & Repair from Word. It didn't fix it the first
time, but the second, time I tried, I opted to let it restore all toolbar
defaults, and that did the trick.
