Insert *.wav file resutls in animation timing change

A general question / comment. I'm running XP with Office 2003 I have a file
which has many slides containing custom animation timed text and graphics -
fading in. The file worked fine unitl I added a wav file. Then the
nightmare begins. Once I added the wav file (by default it goes to the
bottom of the custom animation list) I have to bring it to the top of the
list so it will play when the slide begins. However ALL the animation ceased
to work, as it was set to run After Previous. The only way I can get custom
animation to work now is to time each piece of animation to start 'with
previous' individually. Any idea how I can make this easier and less time
consuming? Thanks in advance

You should only have to change the first animation after the sound file to
start with previous and the rest will stay the same.

Your are correct. That however is one of the problems. Timing does stay the
same, it resets to 0.0 secs. In the original presentation, custom animations
were at different times, say 1-2 sec apart. After I inserted the wav file
and set the presentation to start with previous, the timings reset to 0.0
secs. I then had to reset each one to match the voice over in the wav file.

Hi Rich

Would it be possible to add a slide before the animated slide, add the music
to that slide, set the music to run for however many slides you want and
give the slide a 0 second transition? It might work. I too have faced the
problem of having 'after previous' animations and then adding sound - which
is why I always use 'with previous' and adjust the timing now...

HI Lucy
That's a possiblity , however it gets a little more complicated. This is a
corporate presentation. Which means the PPT then gets put into FLASH format
(that's what they want). It then becomes a webcast. Which is another layer
of 'will it work once it's gone from PPT to FLASH to (xxx) provider. If I
use your (helpful) suggestion, then there is an additional slide in the FLASH
presentation. Which is not good. I don't understand why Microsoft makes
this so difficult. Maybe it's fixed in 2007? One can only hope and pray....
Thanks anyway.

Hi Rich

Works just the same in 2007 :)

Sorry, can't give you any advice on converting to flash. Though I'm going to
have to learn as I have a ppt that needs converting so it can go on a
website; at least you knew at the beginning of the project ;-)

Oh, and to all the spammers, I don't need a conversion tool thanks as I
already have 2 methods open to me. And I don't buy from spammers. Now to see
if they actually read the posts....

Hi Lucy
I've found Adobe Captivate works great PPT to Flash. Insert PPT slides and
audio, bit of a learning curve , but what software doesn't have this feature.
Makes us buy their books to learn the program we've spent $$$$'s. There is
another program, called Wondershare. I've seen the results and this too
looks very good - and less expensive than Adobe Captivate.
Too bad this timing 'feature' hasn ot been picked up by Microsoft. Must be
in their next version ;)

Hi Rich

As I say, I already have a couple of options (Camtasia & ispring pro) so
it's a matter of experimenting. I wouldn't buy from Wondershare if they paid
me to (they have some selling techniques that I can't abide).
