Inserted .gif not animated

I have Word2000 on Win98se. I inserted an animated piece of clip art (.gif)
and it transferred just fine. Only problem is now the graphic is static --
not animated. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Animated GIFs can be used only on Web pages and will not animate until
viewed in a Web browser.

Hi J.,

Word only supports the GIF animation when you use
either File=>Save as Web Page or File=>Web Page preview
and view the Word document through a browser. It
retains the animation, it just doesn't 'run' it.

A sort of messy work around is to convert the GIF to
an AVI file and insert that as an Object into Word.

Thank you, Suzanne -- I was afraid that might be the case. But now I KNOW -
frees me up to tilt at some other windmill.

Thanks again.

Is the conversion of a .gif into an .avi difficult? I have IrfanView --
would that do it? It's not something I really have to do -- I was just
curious that it did not work since I recall noticing that some of the clip
art downloadable from clip gallery online was also animated. Thanks again.
I certainly appreciate all of the expert advice I have received from this
NG -- now and in the past.
