Inserted movie files (WMV) appear white when played in PPT 2003

I have some presentations (using PPT 2003) that after inserting movie
files in the Windows Media Video format successfully, when you try and
view that slide or even play the movie by double clicking it, the whole
slide goes white and it doesn't play. In some cases you can see some of
the outlines of the actual clip. This seems to hang PPT. However
playing the same clip from file, plays fine using Media Player 10. I
have checked that the file can play fine using mplay32.exe with no
problem thus (to my knowledge) should be fine in PPT.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as it is driving me
crazy and I can't find anything helpful yet on Google.

Since it plays fine in mplay32.exe, it *should* play in PPT.

I'm guessing a path length issue -- IIRC, that's often signalled by a white
box.

I tried your suggestion with no change
It now appears that even when I try and insert a movie clip from my
local PC PPT hangs and the only way to get out is to kill it in
taskmgr. I have tried a detect and repair with no avail either.

Tomorrow I am going to try it on different machines and check the
difference.

Will post my findings once I have further tested it.

Hm.

So if you put the video and the presentation in a folder on your C drive, it
won't play?

How about if you do that and then delete it from the presentation and
reinsert the one on the C drive in the folder with the PPT file?

Mmmm how frustrating this has proven to be, I have however got it
resolved by decreasing the hardware acceleration down to none. That
then allows it to be inserted and played fine. I will need to download
the lattest video drivers for my adapter.
