Inserted Sub-Projects won't unlink

Steve

Hi, I have a master plan with some sub-projects inserted. I want to remove
the links but retain the data so as to make a true consolidated plan. When I
clear the links to the underlying plans, the plans still remain linked??
This seems to happen on any set of files I test the approach on. This
problem does not occur on my colleague's pc which like mine is running
Project 2003

Hello Steve,

My suggestion is to open both the master project file, as well as
each subproject. Remove the link from the master, save. Save the
subproject and close. Close and save the master. Re-open the
master. Is the link broken?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Steve,

From how you explain this, I'm not sure what you done. And I'm not
sure why you think there is a problem. So I'll explain what I think you
should be doing and you can compare.

When you connect subprojects into a master project, you can either
"link" them, or "insert" them. "Linking" is virtual and does not move
the data into the master file. "Linked" is a connection from master to
the sub master.

When you delete the "link" in the master, you only delete the
connection. The subproject file will not delete. It remains in place.

So when you say you "clear the link" to the underlying plans, do you
"delete them". Are you saying that when you do that they do not delete
(disappear) in the master file? If yes, then how are you doing the
delete? If no, then what is it which makes you conclude that they
"remain linked"?

Hi Rob, what I am trying to do is to get the data out of my sub-project and
into my Consolidated plan permanently ie not linked. When I clear the link
tickbox..the plan collapses to just its summary task and the link reinstates
itself! It is Bizarre..any ideas?

I tried again with Project 2007, and when inserting a project into
another project file with the "link" check box "unchecked", it inserts
the file and it indeed looks collapsed. Upon opening it (via the "+"
symbol) it all is there. I put the [Subproject File] on the Table and
the field is empty so I conclude that the file is not linked.

I cannot replicate what you report. Sorry.

What makes you conclude that the link reinstates itself? Where is the
link indicated?
