Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I have to work with a 5 page template, created by the client, which has a footer indicating "Page 1 of 5", etc. I need to insert a page at the beginning of the template without any footers. I want the new page 2 (the original page 1) to still be "Page 1 of 5" in the footer. How do I do that?

Well, I use a slightly older version of Word, but

1) inserting text for the new page
2) inserting a section break after the new page
3) changing the footer of the 2nd section to not be like the 1st
section and
4) deleting the footer in the (new) first section has worked for
every version of Word that I have used.

You need a section break at the point where you want the change in
page-level properties to occur (headers, footers, margins, page numbers --
all Section properties).

Make sure the section following is NOT set to "Same As Previous (it is by
default, so change it...)

Then set its page numbering to start at "1" (Insert>Page Number...)

Then delete the headers and footers (and page numbers) from the cover page
(Section 1).

Cheers

This answered my question. However, it took a little time to figure out how to change the new section from "Same as Previous".

Yeah, it's not exactly "well" documented, is it? The Help is a disaster
area in Office 2008 :)

I need to do this EXACT same thing and I cannot understand the instructions given in this thread. I need to insert a blank page at the beginning of this document but it cannot include any of the header/footer of the previous.

When I click on the header of the first page, all breaks are greyed out.

When I insert a section break at the bottom of the first page, it throws in an extra blank page that if I try to delete it, I go right back to square one.

I've tried using Micro Help but the instructions are soooo vague.

And I can't find any videos for Word, MAC 2008 headers/footer/section breaks...

would you care to give a detailed instruction on how to do this?

Roberts 4 steps listed make no sense because I'm not that well versed in section breaks and I don't understand your info about page-level properties...

help and thanks... :)

To expand a bit more, I have a document with header and footer and need a blank page at the top that will not populate the other pages.

Where exactly do I put the cursor to create a break for a blank page? I can't in the header because it's greyed out. If I put the cursor in the body it just creates another page below the first one (still not blank and not in the right place) and it does the same if I put the cursor in the footer...

So, in essence, I'm really lost...

I'd like to correct something, if I put the cursor in the footer and try to add a break all of them are greyed out... there's just no way to insert a blank page or page break.

Wow, I just don't understand the instructions in this thread, they don't follow at all, sorry I'm flustered, but this has gotten way more confusing then 2004...

I figured it out! :) OMG, I guess I needed to write this out in a couple threads and keep rereading what was written...

thanks guys...

No worries :)

A header or Footer IS a "break". You can't have a "break inside a break".
