Inserting a space in an equation?

In 2003, keyboard strokes could be used to insert a space in an equation in
Word. Can you do that in 2007? I also want to change the default font to be
used in all equations and can't find where to do that.

In the Word 2007 equation feature, when I press the spacebar, it inserts a space
just as in regular text. Does it not do that for you?

Currently the only font that includes all the math characters used by the
equation feature is Cambria Math. MVP Bob Buckland has posted information about
a couple of other math fonts that are under development, but aren't yet
released. For example, read
