Inserting Actuals changes Normal Dates

Hi,

When i insert my actual Start, Finish and Duration date, the Normal Start,
Finish and duration dates change. This is not what i want to happen. I have a
plan which has been saved and baselined, i want the normal dates to show what
the baseline was and then want to enter the actual dates to show the slippage
on the project. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michael,

What you describe (Start and Finish dates changing once the task has been
updated with actual data) is how Project functions. You could insert the
Baseline Start, Baseline Finish, Baseline Duration fields in a table to show
the original plan. You can also view variance from baseline through the
Start Variance, Finish Variance, and Baseline Variance fields.

If i got your point, you want to change the estimated time already scheduled with the real time and date of the task, and then compare the derivations.
well if thats it you have to save the baseline after finishing creating the time-line (before you start filling actuals) you can do that by going to Tools/ Tracking/save baseline.../ then click on OK.
in that way you can compare your actuals with the time line by going to View/tracking Gantt. the gray lines are the old actual time for each task and the blue lines are the real time and date of the same tasks.
