Inserting address from Outlook contact list on envelope in Word 20

-I can't print an address on an evelope using my contact list in Outlook. (I
was able to do this with my previous software-Windows ME & Word 2000). I get
the following message: "Eithere there is no default mail client or the
current mail client connot fulfill the messaging request. Please run
microsoft outlook and set it as the default mail contact." When I close this
box I get another stating: "Logon failed. You must logon to microsoft
exchange to access your address book." My ISP does not support Microsoft
Outlook's email program. I must use Outlook Express for email and therefore
it is my default. Do I now have to look up and manually type an address to
use tools-letters & mailings-envelopes & labels-insert an address? This
seems like a step backwards to me.

Word cannot work with Outlook Express as an AddressBook. The address book
doesn't HAVE to be in Outlook, but it does have to be in a MAPI-registered
application. OE doesn't use MAPI, so Word can't communicate with it.

As you say, a step backward, but the backwards step isn't on Word's part. You
might look into getting a different ISP Best, though, might be to get a list
of what your ISP does support (technical info) and find out if there isn't a way
to use Outlook with the ISP, anyway; they can't control what you use, only the
interface protocols they provide. The folks in the Outlook group can probably
help you with this.

Thank you Cindy for taking the time to answer my question. The thing I don't
understand is that I was able to use my Microsoft Outlook contact list
previously to insert an address in Word with my current ISP and Outlook
Express. The only thing that has changed is I upgraded to Windows XP and
Office 2003. Has something changed in Office 2003 that prevents this?

Now I'm confused. Have you installed Outlook from Office 2003? If not, then
it won't work. In any case, I advise you to ask in an OUTLOOK newsgroup, as
those people have a much better grasp of the technology behind the Address
Book functionality. The error message you quoted does indicate, however,
that Outlook isn't installed, or at least isn't registered correctly.

Have you ever started Outlook 2003 up and looked at the Contacts list? If
not, do that and see if anything changes.
