Inserting an average function

Hi all,
I'm hoping one of you is able to help me. I have been working on some
extensive databases and I need to average 5-7 columns. I have then used my
insert a function command and it has worked fine for most cases. However two
or three sheets will not complete the math. The function just sits on the
cell. What is going on?? How can I get the function to work? I tried
changing the data from text to numbers, etc. I jsut can't figure it out.
Can anyone HELP me???

Sounds like your cells are formatted as text. On your first cell with that
function, format as General or Number, hit F2 and then enter - then copy
that cell down as far as needed.
