Inserting Auto Shapes and Page Layout

I have created several files that have auto shapes
(circles with connectors)inserted. However, in one
document, every time I insert an auto shape connector it
changes the view to normal view from print layout view
and I can not see the graphic. What code is in that
document to cause that to happen?
