Inserting Bibliography makes Word 2007 freeze

I am working on my Master's Level Dissertation Thesis and using the new
Microsoft Office 2007 Beta on Windows XP SP3 and ahigh-end laptop. I take
sequential back-ups and its been fine except have been having a problem with
the Bibliography.

I have over 160 references entered into the (citiation) source manager and
when I hit the button for INSERT BIBLIOGRAPHY at the end of my document, it
all freezes for 5 minutes and then returns to a normal deispaly screen. My
process manager shows CPU usage at 100% (sufficient memory though).

The work-around i used to generate the bibliography was to generate it with
15 citiation at a time which is silly. Do you have any suggestions on how I
can get things to work (without uprading my laptop!!)

Thanks in advance.

Ananda:

My advice - switch over to a real bibliography manager like Refworks.

I have spent weeks trying to get the Bibliography manager in Word 2007 to
work. My conclusion - that portion of the system is so buggy, there's no
hope for it. I certainly wouldn't use it for real.

Just my opinion

I have been using Refworks and may have to go back to it. The problem with
Refworks - thougn very robust and reliable - is that it is not intuitive
enough. While writing, it is easier to add the citation source and then have
it cited in one go rather than the 4 stap process required (with an
additional Write-N-Cite download!)

But there may be no option really. Hope the people at Microsft Office Beta
team working on the bibliography can do something about this.

Thanks for your response, in any case.

Kind Regards.

I have 300 citations in my bibliography. The bibliography is in place and
now I am doing only updates. Each update takes 1 1/2 hours. Three out of
four times it locks up and stops working. That also takes 1 1/2 hours. That
translates to 6 hours per update. It seems foolish to even use this program
if one needs another bibliography program to use with it. This is my first
Word experience and on this I am unimpressed.
