Inserting "checkmark" automatically in table

I would like to insert the Symbol font's "checkmark" character in a table
cell by simply mouse clicking in the cell. How can I do that?

TIA

Hi Chuck,

I use Word 2003.

I'd also love to know the answer to this one...I can get the little
check boxes to appear quite easily, but whenever they're clicked they
only seem to have the option of an "X" appearing in them. I haven't
been able to find a way to replace the "X" with any other kind of
symbol.

Anway, in the interim, if an "X" is okay with you, (and you likely
already know how to do this), you can open your document, insert your
pointer in the table cell where you want the checkbox, click
VIEW>TOOLBARS>FORMS...which will display the FORMS toolbar.

You can then click on the little checkmark icon (which is ironic,
because the resulting field produces an "X" when clicked). The box
will come up blank, but once you protect the form with the padlock on
the toolbar, if a user clicks in the box, it will result in an "X"
appearing in it.

If you need to makes subsequent changes to your document, you can
unprotect it easily on the same toolbar by re-clicking the padlock, and
proceed from there.

I wonder if there IS some sort of way to have that default "X" changed
to a different symbol?

Best of luck with this, I would LOVE to know the answer, too!
