Inserting Field Data in New Column

I'm trying to insert a few new columns to be viewable on a printout. I need
to see a description of each job as well as the materials used alongside the
timeline to help with material resource allocation. I can go to "insert" and
put in a new column, but I am unable to input data into any field. Is there
any way to do this?
